The American University in the Emirates invites MLIS Master’s Holder candidates to apply for the open position of Library Manager.
Job purpose
This Library Manager is responsible for monitoring the day-to-day activities and making sure of the error-free operation of the university library, and encouraging library usage.
Qualifications & Education
MLIS (Master of Library and Information Science) Professional library qualification from an internationally recognized and accredited university.
Experience
Minimum 5 years of experience in managing University and Academic Library and Information Resource Center in a multicultural environment
Work experience in Higher Education institutions is preferable
Skills / Training / Knowledge
Excellent communication skills
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Ability to tactfully and politely deal with difficult customer situations
Appreciation of cultural diversity
Fluent in Arabic & English language skills
Major Tasks Involved:
Planning, administrative, and budgetary functions of library and information resources and services.
Policies – Establish and Implement Library and Information Policies and Procedures
Budget – Establish and manage the Budget for the Library and Information Services
Develop and manage convenient, accessible library and information services
Analyze and evaluate library and information services, technology and media service requirements
Resource Selection – Books, Journals, Online Databases, Newspapers & CDs/DVDs
Prepare reports related to library and information services, technology and media services, resources and activities
Organizing library events – Including book fairs, library orientations, online database trainings for students and faculties
Conducting user surveys when required
Library marketing – through social media, pamphlets and brochures
Performs other duties and responsibilities related to the overall administration to accomplish the library goals.
Work closely with Online Database providers and the Department of Systems Development to ensure the error-free services and supports offered by the library.
Assists in core Library information systems administration which includes, backup, technical support to the user community, etc.
Process and support services of eTextbooks for the curriculum needs.
Library Software – Updates and maintenance
Participates in library committee as required to primary job assignment.
Acquisition – Coordinating with publishers/vendors, negotiation, Receiving Quotation, Price Comparison, ordering resources, receiving, processing and payment processing for both print and online resources.
Collection Development – Identifying resources and receiving suggestions from faculties & students.
Documentation – Maintaining all the necessary documents, including quotations, invoices, and faculty suggestions, etc.
Library marketing – through social media (Facebook)
Update and maintain the library website, brochure, newsletter, etc.
Performs other duties and responsibilities related to the information systems as needed to accomplish the tasks as required.
Acquisition & Collection Development
Find out the resources from various sources, like, the publisherÂ’s website, and vendors list, check other top universities’ Library catalogues etc.
Receiving suggestions from faculties & students
Compilation of List after duplicate checking and checking the Latest Edition.
Placing the Order.
Receiving books on approval basis/against order and updating records.
Tracking Suggestions.
Reminders to the vendors for non-supply of books.
General Task
Arranging meetings and minutes when required
Providing training and development to the library staff for a better understanding of the system to offer customer-focused service.
Collection Development – Identifying resources, receiving suggestions from faculties & students
Supervising the overall library activities to ensure error-free services
New Arrival Alert – New arrival lists to be forwarded to the user community
Orientation – Train Library users to find the resource and use them effectively
Supervising Circulation Counter to make sure error-free transactions
Shelf reading – Supervising the shelving arrangements.
Reports – reports to be generated according to the timely needs.
