Role and Responsibilities
Responsible for overseeing and managing all financial functions within the company. This role is crucial in providing strategic financial direction, ensuring compliance with industry-specific regulations, and optimizing financial performance to support business growth and profitability.
Key responsibilities:
Develop and execute financial strategies and plans aligned with the company’s retail or FMCG objectives.
Create, monitor, and analyze financial forecasts, budgets, and financial models.
Evaluate and report on financial performance, highlighting key insights and recommendations.
Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements, adhering to industry-specific accounting standards.
Oversee financial audits and regulatory compliance, staying updated on retail or FMCG-specific regulations.
Implement internal controls to safeguard assets and maintain accurate financial records.
Manage inventory accounting processes, including valuation, obsolescence, and shrinkage analysis.
Collaborate with supply chain and operations teams to optimize inventory turnover and cost efficiency.
Analyze product costs and pricing strategies to maintain competitive margins.
Conduct profitability analysis by SKU, category, or channel to inform pricing and product decisions.
Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure liquidity for daily operations, including inventory procurement and distribution.
Optimize working capital management in alignment with seasonal demands and market trends.
Develop and implement strategies to mitigate financial risks, such as currency fluctuations, commodity price volatility, and credit risk.
Utilize hedging and risk management tools where applicable.
Lead and mentor the finance team, including finance managers, analysts, and accounting staff.
Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement within the finance department.
Monitor and report on industry-specific KPIs, such as inventory turnover, sell-through rates, and store-level profitability.
Analyze customer behavior and sales data to inform marketing and merchandising strategies.
Oversee the selection, implementation, and maintenance of financial systems and software tailored to retail or FMCG needs.
Stay abreast of industry-specific technology trends and best practices.
Qualifications And Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field; a Master’s degree or CPA/CMA certification is often preferred.
Extensive experience in financial management roles within the retail or FMCG sector.
In-depth knowledge of retail or FMCG accounting principles, industry-specific regulations, and reporting requirements.
Proficiency in retail-specific financial metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Familiarity with ERP systems and financial software commonly used in the industry.
